Way back in 1866, as a reporter for the Sacramento Union, Mark Twain visited the Big Island of Hawaii. He was so taken back by the authenticity of the people, the flora, the fauna, that he couldn’t believe anyone on the island could be anything more than happy. Life was so visually beautiful. He carried his thoughts back to the mainland, and reported in his article a simple thought for his readers:
“Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably and never regret anything that made you smile. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do, than by the ones you did. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
