Quotes We Love from Children’s Books…

No matter how old you may be!

We are big fans of children’s books here at Grandparentslink! After all, many a life lesson can be learned in the simplest of ways. Take a look at some of our favorite quotes from children’s books that we still share daily, even in adulthood! We love the idea that maybe as grown-ups, we actually can appreciate and understand the power of these words.  Take a look:

You get what you get, and you don’t get upset.
“You get what you get, and you don’t get upset.”
Our GPL executive assistant who is also a preschool teacher picked out this first quote.  Sarina says she reads Pinkalicious basically every day to her new pre-k class every September. “It really helps to show kids that at school options for getting what you want aren’t always as flexible as they are at home.” This quote works great during snack times, art activities, and even on special occasions like birthdays when flavor choices aren’t an option!

It’s no use going back to yesterday because I was a different person then.
“It’s no use going back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
We truly can’t change what might have happened yesterday, but we can focus on how we want to operate and think now, in the present.

The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne
This is a beautiful quote to read to your grandchildren. Leaving behind positive reinforcement for your family, encouraging them to be their best selves is the greatest gift you can give.

Today was a difficult day. Tomorrow will be better
“Today was a difficult day. Tomorrow will be better.”Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
Keep this in a sticky note on your desk.

A person’s a person , no matter how small
A person’s a person , no matter how small”.Horton Hears A Who! by Dr. Seuss
We need to remind ourselves that no matter what size we are, voices are sure to be heard, love is to be felt, and respect is something that comes in all sizes and shapes.

There’s no place like home
“There’s no place like home.”- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
Really, there is no place like home. Take a moment and remember what truly matters.  Being grateful is what it’s all about.

Okay grandparents, let’s be honest- as we age- have you ever felt discounted? Have you ever felt that in the one on one or family conversations you are not taken seriously, with integrity, credibility, or perhaps have you felt invisible? The other day while driving with my daughter and her children (my adorable grandchildren) I couldn’t participate in any conversation- no one was giving me an opportunity to just talk- to just participate, and quite frankly I left like Casper the friendly ghost. There was no harm meant- it was just the environment at the time.

The Value of Your History

Let’s take a moment and celebrate our personal footprint and stories – never discounting the importance of who we are and where we came from, along with the details of our family history. Our generation should make every effort to pass along as much as we can to those younger than ourselves in the evolving generations. This is our legacy.

When Life Gives You Lemons – You Can’t Make Orange Juice

Let’s agree- we can’t always predict, determine, or control what will happen from day to day- but what we can do is train our mindsets to accept the changes, challenges or whatever is thrown our way. We need to deal with the curve balls thrown in life. One of the most difficult things for all of us as we age, is to learn to roll with the punches, and train ourselves not to stress or become emotionally crippled due to circumstances out of our control. That being said- there are many schools of thought and many options out there.
