What are your grandchildren’s thoughts on the pandemic?

an exclusive feature by Victoria Waller, Ed.D*

This is a great family activity and a good way to see how your grandchildren are feeling during this pandemic—and how YOU are feeling! For those of us who do not get to be “with” our grandkids, do this activity virtually. Simply ask the parents to help you with the set up, and then meet on Zoom or Facetime….

1. Cut out words from newspapers, magazines and advertising fliers, or print and cut out random words from the internet.

2. Lay all of the words on a table.

3. Then put blank sheets of paper (or poster board), scissors, glue, and markers on the table.

4. Have each person choose words which describe the way they are feeling and then paste them randomly, or in sentences, on their paper. They can also decorate their paper with pictures or designs.

You will be amazed at the results…

*As an educator for over 40 years, Dr. Victoria Waller has taught thousands of students to read and write using their passions and strengths: sharks, roller coasters, rocket science, the Titanic and even Pokemon, to name a few. The children learn to read, but more importantly, “love” to read, which lasts a lifetime!

Are We Discounted?

a special feature from Kay Ziplow, co- founder

Okay grandparents, let’s be honest- as we age- have you ever felt discounted? Have you ever felt that in the one on one or family conversations you are not taken seriously, with integrity, credibility, or perhaps have you felt invisible? The other day while driving with my daughter and her children (my adorable grandchildren) I couldn’t participate in any conversation- no one was giving me an opportunity to just talk- to just participate, and quite frankly I left like Casper the friendly ghost. There was no harm meant- it was just the environment at the time.

The Value of Your History

The Value of Your History

a special feature from Kay Ziplow & Leslie Zinberg, founders

Let’s take a moment and celebrate our personal footprint and stories – never discounting the importance of who we are and where we came from, along with the details of our family history. Our generation should make every effort to pass along as much as we can to those younger than ourselves in the evolving generations. This is our legacy.

When Life Gives You Lemons – You Can’t Make Orange Juice

Let’s agree- we can’t always predict, determine, or control what will happen from day to day- but what we can do is train our mindsets to accept the changes, challenges or whatever is thrown our way. We need to deal with the curve balls thrown in life. One of the most difficult things for all of us as we age, is to learn to roll with the punches, and train ourselves not to stress or become emotionally crippled due to circumstances out of our control. That being said- there are many schools of thought and many options out there.
