8 Ideas for Winter Fun

That being said, we all know how it feels when those brutally cold winter days creep up on us and we feel STUCK. We might even be out of ideas of how to keep the grandkids, and family entertained (or even to get them to come over- ha!). Don’t fret.. we’ve put together a list of some fun family friendly activities that will cure those winter blues. Oh, and don’t forget to bundle up! Whatever you do – have fun.

  • Winter Bucket List

Why not make a family winter bucket list? Maybe each member of your family has a personal wish list of things to do or experience. Take a moment and have family conversations about what everyone is interested in. Your family will have a blast checking each of those winter activities off the bucket list while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Who knows – maybe it’s just a cookie eating contest on a cold wintery day.

  • Host a Sledding Party

If you have a slope or hill in your yard, invite some friends over to sled. No hill. No problem. Find one near you and gather your friends for a couple of hours of amazing winter fun. Also, are there mountains that may be in your area for a fun day trip? If so, go for it!

  • Build a Snow Maze

Use a shovel or stomp with your feet to create a snow maze in the back yard. Hours of fun for the kids to make it and to play in it.

  • Go for a Walk

Grab some warm cocoa and go for a walk on a beautiful winter night. And if you have snow, listen to the sound of snow crunching under your boots. Look at the stars and dream, and pull your grandchild in the sled, they’ll love it!

  • Go Ice Skating

If you don’t have an outdoor rink around, go to an indoor one.

  •  Go Cross Country Skiing

Cross country skiing can be fun. It is great exercise for sure. And while you are getting a good workout, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery.

  • Build a Snowman

Maybe you have enough snow to build a whole snowman family. You can even have a little competition and give rewards for the most beautiful, crazy or creative snowman.

  • Read Winter Books

Little ones would love these books:

Squirrels on Skis  A delightful book with fun pictures and a rhyming story about squirrels on skis.

Eloise Skates! An Easy-To-Read book about little girl Eloise who goes ice skating with her dog.

Snow Bear This book has soft-to-touch pictures on every page. A sweet story about a bear exploring the snowy world.
